General care for handmade pottery
Your piece is one of a kind, just like you! Each piece is made by me from start to finish. (unless I can get my husband to help with the glazing ;) 1. Never put boiling/super duper hot water into a cold vessel. This can cause thermal shock and cause cracks/breakage. If your house is cold or you've removed a vessel from a cold place, run it under the hot tap for a bit first. 2. The same goes for pulling something straight out of the dishwasher, oven or microwave, but in reverse ;) Don't put cold things into a hot vessel. 3. Always remove a hot pot from the microwave by the handle or with an oven mit, etc. Ceramic is a great conductor, and will transfer heat. 4. Unless otherwise noted, (or with fine sculptural details) my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe. 5. Always warm pottery like pie plates, casseroles, etc. in the oven gradually, letting it preheat with the oven (again with that pesky thermal shock.) 6. Always bring in ceramic pieces from the outdoors when the weather freezes. Freezing and thawing of water can cause cracks and breakage.
